Lake Thun Travel Guide - Tourism Information

Destination Travel Guide - Tourist Information

Lake Thun Swiss

Interlaken name comes from ‘Inbetween lakes’ – namely Lake Brienz and Lake Thun.
They call it Thunersee – See being lake in German. So Lake Brienz becomes Brienzersee.

There are boats that depart from the dock behind the Interlaken West station. Swiss or Eurail Pass is valid for transit on Lake Thun located at Spiez.

The lake is 10 miles long and it will take about 1.5 hours from Interlaken to Thun on a boat. There is spectacular scenery along the way - Lake Thun is surrounded by rolling hills dotted with quaint Swiss chalets, and majestic mountain panoramas.

Ferries are a wonderful form of transportation. In typical Swiss tradition, ferries are timed so you can combine train and ferry travel. Coming in from Zurich, a great idea is to take the train to Thun in stead of Interlaken. You can take a ferry from just across the street from the rail station to go for a leisurely cruise to Interlaken.

You can take great pictures on your boat journey.
