Lake Maggiore is second after Lake Garda in expanse and is on the extreme west end among the 3 Prealpine lakes in Italy. The basin of the lake has tectonic-glacial source. The main tributaries are the Toce, the Tresa, the Maggia and the Ticino.
This lake is the conjoining point of many lakes like Cannobino, Verzasca and Giona with Ticino as the outlet which unites with the river Po. The climate is mild throughout the year with Mediterranean plants with gardens that have some rare and unique species. |
