Vevey Switzerland Tourist Guide

Vevey Switzerland Tourist Guide

Switzerland as it is a very beautiful country but would not certainly be too much of an expectation if you asked to see some 'spots' in the Swiss landscape that would capture your imagination! Vevey is one of the places in the country that is a must for all honeymoon couples!

Location

Like Lausanne, it is also a predominantly French speaking area and has a district under the same name. The geographical location of the city is interesting to note because it is perhaps the only city in the world that is situated in between two parallel rivers on its eastern and western borders. Ancient Romans called the place Viviscus and hence the modern name.

Interesting Places You Cannot Do Without

Nestle, one of the world's most loved Food giants is headquartered here. The museum by Nestle is one of the greatest 'Food Museums' in the world. The reason as why this place is so famous is because of its milk chocolates. It is an area that has good supply of milk and it was this place where the world's best milk chocolates were invented! The original Swiss chocolates are to be found here - if you're on a chocolate hunt!

La Grenette or the Great Granary has this Grande palace which is a must see if you're in Vevey. Other important places are St. Martin's Church which is renowned for scenic beauty more than its architectural wonders. The most important restaurant in the world - the La Clef is in this town and even today you can see the historic table where Jean Jacques Rousseau had his fill!

Connectivity and Transportation

Its most important means of connectivity is the rail line which turned 'automated' in the year 1956. It is an important part of the Leman RER system. It has frequent and regular trains to most of the important places like Geneva, Lausanne, Blonay, Monteux and Villeneuve. It is also well connected by means of small waterways that join important harbors in the region. Bus network is exceptionally good with even night buses plying in the area.

Where to Stay?

It is relatively a cheaper place to stay in the country if you're looking at budget hotels. Actually during the festival times, the price of the hotels go up, otherwise they are fairly stable. The market area is the place to stay and witness the famous Tuesday and Saturday markets.
