Switzerland Flags

The country of Switzerland has a small territory in the north east region known as the Appenzell. Appenzell is divided into two half cantons and can be called as a miniature Switzerland. The cantonments are that of the Appenzell Outer Rhodes and the Inner Rhodes.

Both the cantonments with their distinct Switzerland flags joined the Swiss confederation is the year 1513 as Appenzell. The Outer Rhodes broke away from the catholic Appenzell in the year 1597 because the Three State Councilors from Berne failed to mediate the negotiations between the parties.

The Outer Rhodes and the Inner Rhodes are now divided as per religious lines where the Outer Rhodes is strictly Protestant with twenty parishes and the Inner with five other parishes that belong to the old religion.

The Switzerland flags are quite a thing to watch out for. The flag of the Appenzell is an argent bear standing on its hind legs against the might of the Abbot of St. Gallen.

The bear is showing his claws and penis with outstretched tongue which marks the defiance against the powerful Abbot. Though divided by the religion the Appenzell people are united and live in harmony with each other.

When the Napoleon army destroyed all the Swiss flags the Appenzell Outer Rhodes flag was the only one which was saved because of the fact that one quick witted Appenzeller informed the officer concerned that the VR in their flag represents the Viva la République.

If you are a spots enthusiast then you will be pleased to note that the football culture is Switzerland is very well developed with various clubs all over the country.

The national football team itself is the pride of the country with back to back world cup appearances. Some of the clubs like that of the FC Aarau, FC Basel and FC Sion are the leading ones in the country and have made UEFA appearances as well.
