The most important bodies of the world are often situated in places that are the most beautiful. It in a way combines the twin objective of the bold and the beautiful. Therefore keeping in tune with the tradition of important headquarters to be situated in picturesque places, is it any wonder that the International Olympic Committee is located here? Switzerland has some of the world's most important headquarters located in the country and this place is also no different.

Romandy is one of the few places where French is spoken as the local dialect and therefore Lausanne has an essentially French speaking population. It is also the capital city of Canton of Vaud. It is actually a district city, owing to its sheer size in the small country of Switzerland. It is actually quite close to Geneva (the capital city of Switzerland) and sits at a comfortable distance of around 65 kilometers from it. With time, regional development was important and hence a separate area comprising from parts of Geneva and Lausanne was created; it has a 1.2 million strong population.

Also, if you're visiting Lausanne, you cannot leave the place without seeing the wonderful Olympic Museum that draws in visitors from far and wide! They rightly say that when in Lausanne, you're in midst of the best vineyards of the world! And what is your Swiss holiday without tasting the true Swiss Wine? For self-help tourists, you will have no problem in roaming around this modern planned city as it has an extensive metro coverage (it is the smallest city in the world to have a rapid transit system)!

Even if you're travelling to and fro Geneva, you wont face any problems because it is connected to the Geneva International Airport with an express metro link. The much enquired about Geneva Zurich wing is to its west and is connected to the same by the A1 motorways. The route A9 is situated at its North and East part and connects it to Italy and France also.
