Chalet In Switzerland

Chalet In Switzerland

If you're thinking of skiing in Europe, one of the first things that come to mind is a chalet in Switzerland. Without a doubt, having your own chalet in the mountains make for the most convenient form of accommodation. And if it is a serviced chalet then it's nothing like it!

History

But first, let us discover what exactly a chalet is. It is basically a kind of house which is located on the Alps - as it originated in the region- and is made of wood. It has a gentle, sloping roof and has eaves which are pretty wide and provide quite a bit of support. These eves are more often than not, perpendicular to the house.

Chalets were originally used as accommodation for Alpine farmers in Switzerland. They were made of wood to insulate them well from the bitter cold of winter. Farmers would live in the chalet and store dairy products such as cheese and milk, derived from their cattle, in the Chalet in the Summer in order to preserve them. This was brought about on account of the high altitude of the chalet. In winter, they would take these dairy products back down to the lowlands, along with their cattle and resume farming there.

Now, of course, the term Chalet in Switzerland has a totally different meaning. The skiing business is a thriving industry here and most chalets are let out on a regular basis during the winter to travelers. Of course, those who can afford to, build their own chalets in Switzerland these days. Now any vacation home built near skiing mountains are termed as chalets. And this means they don't necessarily have to be in Switzerland.

Options

Ask for a ski chalet in Switzerland and immediately a hundred different options will show up. There are chalets of various sizes, designed to accommodate groups of practically all sizes. Nowadays, many modern amenities can be found in chalets. These include hot tubs, internet facilities and so on. After all, you can't afford to lose complete touch with the world beyond your ski slopes while on a vacation, can you?

There are also ski chalets which are serviced and you can taste some of the most delicious European food, while on your break. On the other hand you will find many chalets where you have state of the art, fully equipped kitchens where you can go wild. What are you waiting for? Go book your ski chalet in Switzerland today!
