Switzerland Health System

Switzerland Health System

Switzerland has a very strong health system compared to other developed countries. The Federal Health Insurance Act of 1994 is applicable in Switzerland. It is compulsory for all the people in Switzerland to have health Insurance. For the first three months of your stay in Switzerland, the Insurance is free but if you stay above three months, you will have to pay the insurance money. If a new child is born, the same rule is applicable for the child also.

The government will exempt the child from the insurance for the first three months and then the parents will have to pay insurance for the child also. If you are, a member of permanent mission or an international civil servant then you and your family will get free insurance.

The insurance company will pay the insurance for hospitalization and the general cost of the medical treatment. Any other expenses that occur are the liability of the insured person to pay. Apart from the compulsory cover, the people of the Switzerland can also go for the private coverage. This will be quite expensive and so many people do not like to do private insurance.

The people of Switzerland contribute 10.8% of the GDP in health care. There are a number of hospitals in Switzerland. You can choose the hospital as per your convenience. Therefore, it is very clear from this that health insurance is compulsory and very much necessary in Switzerland.

It is always better to pay a monthly premium then to pay a huge amount of money at the time of hospitalization. The hospital charges in Switzerland are very high so it is very important that all the family members should have a health insurance.

The government interferes in the health system, which in turn is a benefit to the people of the country. If they find any person without insurance, the law will punish them. The government takes care of the issues related to health care. This has improved the standard of living of the people and it gives many benefits to the people of Switzerland.
