Skiing Resorts In Switzerland

Switzerland is one of the major tourist attractions of the world because of its scenic beauty. Arosa is known for being both a winter as well as summer resort situated at the foot of Weisshorn. The skiing area of over sixty (60) kms of slopes is a famous safe skiing area. In 1938 ski elevators were constructed and in 1956 the Weisshorn cable car was also started.

Crans Montana, known for hosting the 1987 Alpine skiing World Cup is a ski resort located in the heart of Swiss Alps in the canton of Valais. Crans Montana is one of the biggest Swiss ski resorts and also offers training in skiing, carving snowboard , carving snowboard, snowbiking, nordic-skiing and telemark, ski-hiking or ski touring, downhill with light torch, heli-sking and ski off pist.

Davos is located in the Grissons region of Switzerland close to the borders of Austri and Italy lying between mountains which has been developed into five separate ski regions with more than 300 km of marked runs with difficult slopes for intermediate and expert skiers and is internationally regarded as Winter Sports Metropolis. This place also boasts of being Europe's longest ski run from Weissfuhgipfel to Kublis .

Engelberg is a leading mountain resort in Central Switzerland located in the province of Obwalden in Switzerland. This resort offers a perfect skiing area of 82kms on blue, red and black slopes in the regions Brunni known for skiing for children and amateurs while Titlis offers a variety of diverse runs for various levels depending upon the skiing ability.

Grindelwald is both a winter as well as summer resort offering skiers large areas suitable for all kinds of skiers. Ski experts can especially avail of adventurous slopes in the Eiger glaciers.

Interlaken in Swiss language implies "between the lakes". In Interlaken, the Jungfrau Top Ski region has over 160kms trail the most spacious being Kleine Scheidegg-Mannlichen and has 35 marked trails suitable for intermediate skiers. The ski region can be categorized as 30% beginner traces while 50% and 20% intermediate and advance skiing slopes. The skiing season is between November to April with Christmas and New Year being the busiest days.

Kandersteg is located in the province of Bern in Switzerland and is known Alpine landscapes and magnificent mountain scenery. Oeschinen and Sunnbüe are the places known for skiing. Even if there is not much snow then due to snow machines a continuous skiing experience can be availed of. Also, the ski regions are interconnected by a complimentary Sport-Bus.

Klosters well known ski resort lies 150 kms from the airport of Zurich. The Davos-Klosters region is a paradise for skiers having in all 300kms of slopes out of which 110 are marked slopes: 20% for easy;40% for medium and the rest 40% for difficult skiers in 40kms of slopes. Apart from this there is also a 12km ski run from Weissfluhgipfel to Küblis with a difference 2034 mts in altitude. Additionally, the Selfranga lift also provides for night skiing on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Laax, located in the south east of Zurich is a brilliant ski resort and wholesome skiing experience with Falera being ideal for those who want to enjoy both skiing as well as solitude whereas Nagens and Foppa are ideal for beginner skiers. Swiss Ski School Flims Laax Falera offers special classes for all those intermediate skiers who want to sharpen their skiing skills.

Leysin in the district of Aigle is known for resorts providing skiing for all levels of skiers. Les Mosses - La Lécherette, is a true stronghold of Nordic skiing, which hosts a numerous international cross-country skiing competitions.

Meiringen is the administrative capital of Oberhasli district in the province of Bern is another ski resort boasting of 22 modern ski lifts. Apart from this Skihäsliland has four training lifts which help in making the art of skiing an easy experience.

Saas Fee also provides tremendous skiing conditions of almost 50miles of downhill trails. This resort also provides for summer skiing.

Saas Grund, located at the heart of Saas Valley at an altitude of 1500 metres is one of the most popular ski resorts. The easy wide pistes runs are suitable for beginners whereas the breathtaking glacier pistes are for the intermediate skiers. Expert skiers can also avail of the cross-country of 26kms.

Wengen is a leading ski resort in the Alps having a direct access to 112kms of downhill pistes which are connected by way of 19 ski lifts. This resort is apt for all levels of skiers from amateurs to experts. Tourists can avail of skiing above the altitude of 2000 metres and hence can be done so till April.

Zermatt, located at the foot of Matterhorn is a tranquil area having a stunning ski resort and is truly is a paradise for skiers as it has a snow cover throughout the year. During winter, there are over 313kms of ski runs which can be enjoyed in summer with 20kms as well. There are ski schools also wherein expert skiers provide private coaching to amateurs.
Thus, Switzerland can be very aptly regarded as the Paradise of Skiing on earth.
